His death shocked the music world and millions of fans worldwide. Mexican journalist Shanik Berman sparked controversy after sharing on social media that she was staying in the same hotel room where Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, died. The incident quickly generated controversy on social networks, according to Agencia Noticias Argentinas, due to the way she recounted and showcased her stay at the place where the British musician spent his final moments. The entertainment journalist and collaborator on the program 'Hoy' traveled to Argentina with her daughter Karla Berman and used her TikTok account to say she was staying in room 310 of the CasaSur hotel in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo. In the video, she detailed that from the balcony of that room, the fall that caused the musician's death in October 2024 would have occurred, while showing the view of the hotel's pool. According to Berman, her stay in that room was due to a recommendation from the hotel staff itself: 'The hotel was full and there was only one room left,' she explained in the video, where she also assured she does not believe in coincidences. The journalist also recorded the tribute that Liam Payne's fans maintain in the vicinity of the hotel, with flowers, photos, and messages dedicated to the singer. In her account, she stated that the emotions of the followers who approach the place to remember him can still be perceived. Reactions on social networks were not long in coming, and the video divided opinions, as some users defended her right to tell the experience, while a large number of comments questioned the exposure of the place and rated the content as reckless. Messages such as 'What is the need?', 'Shanik never disappoints with her recklessness,' and 'Why did she tag him?', as the journalist tagged Payne's account on her social networks. The singer died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31 after falling from the balcony of his room at the CasaSur hotel in Palermo.
